AWESOME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING PRESENTS: 52W HARDWAY

Darby Allin, Raymond Pettibon, & Charlie Ramone

Awesome Championship Wrestling (ACW) is proud to present 52W HARDWAY — a bold, genre-blending spectacle that fuses visual art and live wrestling into a shared arena of tension, rupture, and meaning. With 52 Walker as our venue, we’re transforming gallery space into battlegrounds — inviting audiences to witness performance in its rawest form.

This experimental event is rooted in the logic of wrestling: spectacle, fallibility, and that moment when illusion frays. Hardway refers to when a wrestler is accidentally busted — a crack in the veneer, a moment of real injury inside the choreography. That break is central to what we explore.

The exhibition runs from September 26 to October 11, featuring works by Raymond Pettibon and Charlie Ramone, among others. But the heart of the event happens October 3 and 10, when the wrestling ring moves into the gallery and performers fight where art lives.

Lineup, Structure, & Crossovers

Headliner: Darby Allin — pushing boundaries, leaping risks, and fully committed to this hybrid stage.
Special contributor: Charlie Ramone — designer, artist, former wrestling craftsman — whose crossover capacity shapes the visual and thematic fabric of the show.
Support: A handpicked roster of willing fighters, undercard matches, and musical interludes curated to resonate with both the visual and visceral elements.

On Night 1 (October 3) and Night 2 (October 10), expect:

  • Multiple undercard fights (intimate, high energy)
  • A featured main bout with Darby Allin
  • Musical performances woven into the evening
  • Surprise moments and visual interplay drawing from Pettibon / Ramone installations

Each night is standing room only — meant to keep the audience close, unshielded.

Why 52W HARDWAY Matters

Wrestling is often seen as spectacle, but underneath there is strain, risk, and raw physical truth. In 52W HARDWAY, they lean into that fracture. We invite you to witness where illusion becomes vulnerable, where performance collides with danger, and where bodies and ideas tangle.

The visual work by Pettibon and Ramone resonates with the same themes: masculinity, myth, pain, and the illusions that uphold spectacle. When the ring is built inside a gallery, the boundary between art and life dissolves.

ACW is calling all fans, critics, artists, and curious spectators — come close, watch the rupture, and see what happens when wrestling is reframed as living art.
